I don’t know about you … but I loved Mad Men. I didn’t watch the show when it was in the regular season, but like many people, I binge watched in true marathon style. The show has now ended, and I truly miss watching Don Draper and the rest of the crew blaze trails in New York’s 1960s advertising mecca. More than the characters, though, I miss the beautiful set designs full of mid-century modern furnishings. Although I cannot prove it, I believe the show singlehandedly saved a lot of mid-century modern furniture from the dumpster. Reproduction pieces from the era have made it to many furniture showrooms, and authentic pieces have brought top dollar in all areas of resale. I can’t remember any other TV show that has done so much for a specific style of furniture. Let’s hope that as Don Draper finds himself with his new yogi, mid-century modern collectors keep the furniture out of the landfill.
